All you guys have a story to tell that is a part of the history of the British nation. Why are you not recording your experiences for future generations?
Creating a website is as easy as typing an email or entering a guestbook note.
Go to FREEWEBS and sign up for your free website and you need no experience of HTML or code. You will find some links on my website where I have encouraged others to do just that and they are so glad that they did. They have made contact with people they served with whom they may never have been able to find again.
Come on guys.......time is of the essence at our age !!
Cheers
Jim Aitken

Comments:     Nice site and one for all who passed through the camp over those years. I was there from Febuary to April 1957. Must have been one of the last intakes to pass through the camp before closure. Wondered what the hell had hit us at first but by the end of eight weeks boys had been turned into men. There must have been many thousands of friendships struck up during those basic training days. I for one look back with fond memories of the place. Taught me to look after myself. Upon leaving West Kirby I was trained in Radio at RAF Locking and then posted overseas to Singapore. There I ended up on a great camp for 18 months. RAF Chia Keng. I have made a web site for that camp so have a look guys and see just how tough it was in the tropics.
www.freewebs.com/roverjag/ Hope some of my old mates from those days see this and get in touch.

Good to look at the photos of the old Camp once more, and remember some of the events that took part when stationed there in January '51, in D squadron , with Corporal Riley in charge, a great guy who treated us well.
I am in touch with only one guy from those days in 1951, Reg Tucker originally from Coventry.
If there are out there who was at West Kirby at the same time, I would be glad to hear from them.

Comments:     4131637 S/B West Kirby early July 53. I forget hut No.but believe flight was Trenchard but DIs were Sgt Fensom, Cpls. Ferril, Franks, & Parker. Cpl Ferril was our hut N.C.O. One of the lads use to teach Sgt Fensom to drive round the parade ground as Fensom had bought a Ford 8 and needed to pass his test. I met up with Sgt Fensom in RAF Dingli Malta he was posted to us as Disip N.C.O. Cpl Parker came from London

Comments:     Great site,i was stationed at West Kirby from dec 1953 till feb 1954 and everyone seems to agree on how cold it was there, but it did indeed turn boys into men. I left ther and went to Kirkham for Armoury training and after a few different camps ended up on 45 sqd in the heart of Malay and after 2 yrs the station armoury in katanyaka in Ceylon(we really did have it rough) ended up doing 5 yrs, but very fond memories of WK

August 1952. DI`s were Cpl Brown, who was a absolute b-----d, Cpl Hurd, who was quite reasonable and Cpl Gray. I will always remember being described by Cpl Brown as a " snot gobbing Egyptian cotton spinner " just because I was a little slow at sloping arms.(##=#) Again a superb site. Edward m. Eady

Comments:     Great site and good to see the guest book gradually filling up. I was at WK for square bashing from September 48. DI was Cpl Gerrachty who vowed he would get his name in the News Of the World for murdering the lot of us. Drill Sergeant was Sgt Poole. Course photo is on Page 1 of Where are they Now? Was then posted to South Cerney. Pleased to hear from anyone who was there same time.

Comments:     I was researching RAF West Kirby, as I live near the site and often walk there with my girlfriend. It is quite a remote spot and you rarely see anyone else there. It is very interesting to see from the pictures on this site, what it was like and actually how big it was. With the memories of the people who passed through there, it certainly makes the walks interesting.
